Middle School STEM

  • Computer Science and Programming Introduction
Grade: 6th-8th Credit: 0.5 (semester)

This provides students with little or no programming experience, an understanding of the role computation can play in solving problems. It also aims to help students, to write small programs to accomplish useful goals. 

Objectives:

Nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity and provide a foundation for success in STEM careers.
Solve problems through writing real code, while developing 21st century skills like multiple-step thinking, perseverance, critical and analytical thinking skills.

  • STEM Exploration
Grade: 7th-8th Credit: 0.5 (semester)

STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education. STEM includes all the above disciplines, while adding art and design to the acronym. At Faith Christian Academy, STEM is part of an ongoing program to explore the relational connections between these educational disciplines. The goal of this course is to teach the students how to apply technology using STEM Integration as a method to design and create solutions.

Objectives:

Use engineering methods and principles to explore, create, and teach.
Understand STEM concepts through a methodical process of understanding, exploring, defining, generating concept solutions, and learning how applied concepts work.
Explore new and exciting tools, both in hardware and software solutions.
Learn how to apply web resources and working as effective team members.
